Crypto12 at the SRRS Webinar: Digital Assets in Business – What Accountants Need to Know

Digital assets are raising increasingly important questions beyond simply buying and selling cryptocurrencies. When a company deals with Bitcoin, USDT or other digital assets, it needs to understand how transactions should be documented, recorded and controlled.

These topics will be addressed by Crypto12 representatives at a webinar organized by the Serbian Association of Accountants and Auditors (SRRS) on November 6, 2026, starting at 10:00 AM.

As part of the session “Digital Assets and Cryptocurrencies in Business,” Danka Kolarević, Chief Financial Officer and Certified Accountant, and Bogdan Vujović, Legal Advisor at Crypto12, will discuss practical considerations from accounting, financial and legal perspectives.

Digital Assets in Business: What Does This Mean for Accountants?

When a legal entity purchases, sells, receives or holds digital assets, each business transaction requires appropriate documentation, records and verification.

For accountants, this raises several important questions. How can the business purpose of a transaction be established? How can blockchain records be linked to accounting documentation? Who is authorized to manage a company’s digital assets?

Unlike traditional banking transactions, blockchain transfers leave a different type of technical record.

Understanding digital assets therefore means more than understanding the underlying technology. It also involves integrating these transactions into existing accounting procedures and internal controls.

What Documentation Is Required for Digital Asset Transactions?

One of the main topics of the session will be the documentation supporting business transactions involving digital assets.

Depending on the transaction, relevant records may include:

  • Contracts or invoices establishing the underlying business purpose.
  • Documentation issued by a digital asset service provider.
  • Digital wallet addresses and blockchain network information.
  • Blockchain transaction identifiers (TxIDs).
  • Bank statements and relevant accounting records.

The objective is to establish a verifiable connection between the business transaction, the transfer of digital assets and its accounting treatment.

What Is a TxID and Why Does It Matter?

A Transaction ID (TxID) is a unique identifier that allows users to verify technical information about a transaction on a blockchain network.

Depending on the network, the transaction status, sender and recipient addresses, transferred amount and transaction timestamp may be publicly verifiable.

However, a confirmed blockchain transaction does not, by itself, establish the underlying business purpose.

This is why accountants need to connect blockchain records with contracts, invoices, service provider documentation and internal records.

The session will explore these issues through practical examples.

Digital Assets and Tax Audits

A dedicated part of the presentation will examine practical experiences involving tax audits of digital asset transactions.

The speakers will discuss supporting documentation, blockchain transaction verification and the importance of reconciling these records with accounting entries and bank receipts.

The session will also address the importance of determining the appropriate tax treatment, which depends on the type of digital asset and the nature of the transaction.

Who Is Responsible for a Company’s Digital Assets?

In addition to accounting and tax documentation, internal procedures play an important role in managing digital assets.

Companies should establish clear authorization rules, employee responsibilities, digital wallet access controls and procedures for reconciling asset balances with their accounting records.

These considerations are particularly relevant when a company holds digital assets as part of its treasury or uses a regulated custody service provider.
